Amy Gardner is an illustrator/ artist living and working in Sydney, Australia.
Amy grew up in far north Queensland before moving to Sydney at 17 to attend the College of Fine Arts (UNSW). After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, she lived and worked for a year in Berlin before returning to Sydney in 2014.
She is passionately curious about the relationship dynamics within communities and subcultures, as well as the personalities, influential figures and unique personal histories that converge to form our individual natures. Academically, Amy recently undertook several units in Psychology at the University of Sydney, but after considerable thought, decided to suspend her studies to commit herself fully to her creative work.
Friendship, community and skateboarding culture are at the centre of Amy’s illustrative practice. She explores the power these social forces have upon her personal life, inspecting the influence of depiction and recreation to inform and reform memory. Amy feels that the people we choose to live our life amongst are a driving force which reshapes our life stories and in turn the art we make.
Amy specialises in bold, detailed illustrations executed in ballpoint pen or coloured pencil on paper, creative and non-fiction writing and traditional painting styles. She is beginning to work digitally, as a means to broaden her practice.
